Wine From Here - Another Interesting Wine Documentary Coming Soon

So this film is a little more on the touchy-feely side of things (kind of in the Buy Local sort-of way).  It is about the Natural wine making process, which is to say wine making that goes beyond the typical Organic concept into the realm of un-altered wine.  Things like not filtering (or fining) the wine (so it has debris in the bottle - i.e. looks cloudy), using only natural and traditional fermentation processes, and not adding any chemicals to the wine for any reason (no sulphites, no acidifiers, no sugars, etc).  All sounds good but there is a lot of controversy about this concept and some people are quite militant when it comes to this way of making wine.

We are way too uninformed to have much of a meaningful position on this, other than to say, we like the Organic/Biodynamic/Natural Wine concept and we would support anything that keeps the planet in as good a shape (or better) than when we started and we like ingesting things that do likewise to us.  That said, from what we can tell there seems to be a lot of shades of gray in the issue.  Vineyard management and grape growing is an ever-changing and always challenging pursuit so it comes as no surprise that some wineries do what they must to produce a quality product.  Same goes for wine-makers with the challenging of creative complex and sell-able wines from those vineyards.  Lots and lots of gray.  Either way, check out the trailer for the documentary, it seems like an interesting film that is fodder for lively debate over a bottle or two.

Also, if you are interested in more information, there is a website associated with Natural Wine called More Than Organic.

Keep on drinking!
