Wine Review - 2010 Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon: Oaky And Oakier
This wine was provided to us and is one we drank on occasion when we lived in the United States. That said, we have not tried the Woodbridge brand very much since we returned to Canada.
We decided to have homemade pizza for dinner so we figured that this would be a good companion. It was opened about 5 minutes before we ate and right off the bat we new it needed a little time to open up. The first impressions revolved around having a LOT of oak flavours in this wine.
The wine has a very plummy colour to it with a an unfiltered look to it but it has been filtered as far as we can tell. It would be considered very dark in our minds. Not a bad looking wine for Cab Sauv but not really remarkable either.
The nose could be considered perfumed as it has an alcohol sensation with a lot of floral components as well as that oak sensation. Okay there may be a leather or more to that point, a Corinthian leather note as well. Interesting but again not super inviting.
The taste of this wine revolves around three things, oak, oak, and.....leather (or maybe oak). We sensed a lot of fruit in the wine but the oak takes centre stage and walks the line of being too oaky. With pizza it is a pretty good pairing but it is better with food in general. As far as the taste goes the plum and berry fruit is balanced overall but the oak overtakes that balance on the finish which is a touch on the tart side. Overall, not bad.

Taste (0-10) | Oak dominates with slight notes of leather and berry fruit. Almost a bit too oaky. | 7.75 |

At $15 it is priced okay but might not be top of mind when in the aisles of the liquor store. We would like to try some other wines from Woodbridge to refresh our memories on this brand.
Keep on tasting!
Chris & Shannon
