Our Wine Habits Have Changed But There Is A Substitute

Less Wine More Tea
Teetotalers
Since finding out our family was growing by one our wine drinking volume has plummeted...sorry wine industry, we know it is hitting your bottom line right now. :)

We have watched with envy at the recent wine and food festivals and tastings that have come and gone without our attendance.  We have lingered in the Liquor Store looking at the wondrous deals in the bargain aisle without making a purchase.  For Shannon the decision was easy not to consume any alcohol while pregnant and the end most definitely justifies the means but that doesn't mean it is easy for her.

Ariel Chardonnay
She has graciously allowed me to have the occasional glass of wine or beer while she patiently sits and watches and enjoys a cup of decaf green tea or non-alcoholic wine.  She is a Saint!  As an FYI to all the pregnant ladies out there, she has found the Ariel Chardonnay made by J. Lohr is actually not too bad.  The Cabernet is passable but the Chardonnay actually has that regular wine taste to it.  I can totally attest to that.  She has tried a variety of un-wine, most of which has been little more than fizzy grape juice but the Ariel product stays true to wine's sensibilities.  Dry with notes of apple or peach and a little underlying oak in there.  Kudos to J. Lohr for coming up with this product.

Having something to taste that even reminds her of regular wine has been a welcomed relief for her and we are glad to have something to make this period of going without wine a little easier.  Soon enough, our lives will be changed forever and not long after that she will be able to go back to enjoying a glass of her favorite beverage.  In the interim, we will try and keep good content coming to this blog.  As the time passes, we will try and let people know how things are progressing.

We would love to hear from any other wine loving Moms or Moms-to-be about how they got through the nine months and beyond.  It isn't exactly driving her crazy but those Woodbridge commercials on TV don't make it any easier.

Keep on tasting!

Chris & Shannon

  1. Where did you find the Ariels?

  2. We found them at a local grocery store chain called Sobey's but it looks as though you can buy it online on the ARIEL website at: www.arielvineyards.com/buy_ariel.html. They have a distributor section on the website for J. Lohr at: www.jlohr.com/trade/sales-distribution-finder (US) and www.jlohr.com/trade/ariel-sales-distribution-finder (International).

    Hope that helps.

  3. Thanks so much. I was at Sobey's and could only find the Carlo Rossi and another brand that looked even less appealing. Do you remember which Sobey's???

  4. We were at the Sobey's in Mill Cove Bedford last time we bought some. It was near the organic section. Maybe check that area?

If we see it at another one we'll let you know.

    Thanks,
