Wine Review - 2011 Sileni The Straits Sauvignon Blanc: Best Stinky Feet Smell Ever
In the glass, the wine is light yellow in colour and show a very slight effervescence which is interesting. The other main characteristic we noticed was that the wine looked a lot less watery than we normally see if NZ Sauv Blanc.
The nose is full of pears and peaches with a hint of mint. The one main note we get is....wait for it....stinky feet. That's right, there is a crazy amount of stink in there and it just works. Why? Because it's followed by a very cleansing mist of alcohol. It is really cool.
The flavour profile is a lot more traditional with a lot of pineapples and
lemon peel. This Sauv Blanc has a lot more residual sugar in it than we would expect and it is thicker on the palate as well. To cap it off, it finishes very quickly and cleanly much like the nose. Unique would be a fair assessment of this wine.
Tasting Notes: | Score: | |
Sight (0-5) | Light yellow colour with slight effervescence and less watery than normal | 4.0 |
Smell (0-5) | Pears and peaches overlaid with mint and stinky feet | 4.5 |
Taste (0-10) | Pineapples, lemon peel with a touch of sugar and a quick finish | 8.75 |
Total: | 17.25 / 20 (86.25%) |
At $24 locally it's on the high side of normal pricing but with all the stuff going on it feels like the price is right. It's worth the stinky feet smell regardless.
Keep on tasting!
